Date: April 14, 2002
Place: Gene Reid Park, Tucson, Arizona
The sky was blue, the sun was bright, the temperature was in the upper 90's (but it was a dry heat), ramada 31 was decorated, Lithuanian flag was flying, Lithuanian music was playing on the loudspeaker, the smell of Lithuanian food was irresistable - yes, Lithuanians of southern Arizona and their friends were having a picnic! About 60 people turned out and Cave Creek, Phoenix, Rio Rico, Sun City, and Tucson were well represented. As always, it was a great opportunity to meet old friends and to make new ones, to discuss Lithuanian issues and just to have a good time.
The picnic was hosted by the Lithuanian-American Community of Arizona and was organized by Edith Balceris and Aldona Vaitkus. Reservations were taken by Siga Eidukonis. Hot food was prepared and served by Edith Balceris, Aldona Katilius, and Maryte Tallat-Kelpsa. Desserts were supplied by Aldona Vaitkus. Tables were prepared by Rama Balceris and Aldona Vaitkus. The bar was tended by Vytas Reklaitis and Rimas Vaitkus. Rimtis Tallat-Kelpsa and Aldona Vaitkus were the cashiers. Rama Balceris and Aldona Gencius sold lottery tickets. Stanley Vanagunas conducted the lottery. Rima Reklaitis made sure that everyone was made welcome. The Lithuanian-American Community of Arizona thanks all the above volunteers for their help and all the guests for coming and bringing lottery prizes.
